The ACENZ INNOVATE Awards were introduced in 1965 and were originally called The Merit Awards. They are now called the INNOVATE NZ: Awards of Excellence. The objectives of the Awards are: to formally acknowledge the achievements and/or service of ACENZ members; to encourage high standards of achievement within the engineering industry and associated professions; to provide a medium for informing others of the achievements of ACENZ members; and to raise the profile of ACENZ Members: engineering consultants and professionals in the built and natural environment.
An Award of Excellence comprises of a framed certificate for the Member and for the client. The official presentation takes place at the association's annual conference. For a record of all ACENZ awards from 1965 to 2012, click here.
There are three levels of awards: Gold, Silver and Award of Merit.  Projects are judged on their own merit rather than against others, so there may be more than one award in any of the categories or none at all.
The premier award is the Gold Award of Excellence.  This award acknowledges a superior project or innovative achievement undertaken by an ACENZ member or a group of Members acting as either Principal Advisor or as Secondary Advisor.
The secondary award is the Silver Award of Excellence.  This award acknowledges projects that clearly demonstrate an outstanding achievement and service to the client.
An additional award, called the Award of Merit, recognises projects or achievements that demonstrate a standard above that normally expected to be provided.
